About: Dusky Dolphin ... |
Probably one of the most playful dolphins.
In Kaikoura some "swimming with dolphins" excursions can be booked. Don't be confused with similar trips throughout the world, as these encounters are really " in the wild" and dolphins don't get food from the ship's crew. Dolphins are attracted by high-speed boats and like to swim along and do the "who's faster" game. When a group of Dolphins are attrated the boat is stopped and you have to leave the boat in your snorkling set ASAP. Then *YOU* have to be attractive to the Dolphins and make sure that these animals are curious about you. The crew told us that the best you can do is to sing a song (underwater!!!). Maybe they made a joke on it, but a can garantuee you that the loved me singing the "Wilhelmus van Nassauwe" :-) And I can guarantee you, that you won't like it :-) This was my best wildlife encounter trip ever!
